Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony VRDMC5 DVDirect DVD Recorder

Customer Review: Quick, Easy, Reliable
Summary: 4 Stars

The DVDirect recorder takes the pain out of digital video archiving. I got it to use at work for capturing digital video from surveillance systems that don't have better methods of archiving through the S-video connection. This is great for that or to save portions of old VHS tapes that have family events. Every iteration of video should be saved to a new form of storage media every 5 years. This device makes it quick, easy and reliable.

Customer Review: Easy to Use
Summary: 4 Stars

Tried this only to coppy a VCR tape to a DVD. Had to buy an AV cable but once I had it, everything set up without any problem and it was very easy to use. Haven't used it yet on my camcorder but expect it will also be easy to use. My only complaint is that, other than stopping and starting the DVDirect, there's no way to edit the camcorder tapes.

Customer Review: Sony Recorder
Summary: 5 Stars

Some issues with instructions. Was unsure of how to use as advertised. I needed more help with this product. Good after I knew what I was doing. dl

After I fumbled around with it, it turns out I was the one who needed help. I am editing my own review. Once I got the hang of it, it was a breeze. Anything and everything went on a disc, I was able to create these on my own. Most of my family live far away and any special events I may have recorded I now can duplicate to a disc to share. In the past I used Walmart Photo. With this recorder I am able to do it when I need it. This recorder will duplicate any type of recording device new or old. My newest purchase was January 2010, a very small video camera that also takes still shots up to 45 minutes of recording time. The oldest is a video camera I purchased about 20 years ago. Thank you Sony! DL

Customer Review: would not record TV shows
Summary: 1 Stars

The product would not let me record TV shows. Although the video was showing on the screen, when I hit record, I got the message "waiting for input". Searching online discovered that this means that the device considered the video content to be "copy protected" and therefore would not record. I returned it the same day.

Customer Review: NOT RECOMMEND...can not do multiple copies....
Summary: 1 Stars

I got this as a gift and now I'm selling it. I don't know if it just me but the I can't make a copy of the DVD that I burned from the unit. Sony seems to put some kind of protection after you burn it on the unit. So you can't make multiple copies for friends and family. This is typical problem for brand name product.
