Customer Review: Great Headphones for the Office

These headphones replaced an older, more expensive, Sony noise canceling headphone I was using until those broke. I'm not an audiophile or a techie who analyzes this stuff in depth or tests them for their best/worst qualities - I'm somewhat of an amateur when it comes to this stuff but I DO know what sounds good and feels good - these pass the test in my book.
My purpose for buying these was not for travel but work inside my home office. I live in a house that does not have a/c, so when it's summer time and it's hot and humid, I have to live with fans blowing and the windows open a lot of the time. My industry is in design and music so when I am working anytime of the day or night, I have to deal with all of this white noise coming from the fans or outside traffic, etc.
I picked these up at Target because I saw them on sale. I was looking for a set of headphones that were noise canceling but would not be ones with ear cups. Headphones with the cups (like the Bose Tri-Port) really don't fit well on my head. I really liked the feel of the Bose On-Ear, which these Sony headphones resembled the most when I tested them out. Since I was to be using these for hours at a time in my home office, comfort and quality were very important. As well as hopefully blocking out the extra noise from my fans.
I've been using these now for about 2 weeks of regular use and I am extremely happy with both the quality and comfort of these headphones. I can't think of a better set for the price, especially if you're just using these in your home office or maybe even light travel. I've used them on the bus when I went downtown a few days ago and it was able to drown out much of the sound. Not as good as my other Sony set, but MUCH better than my earbuds, which was what I was using just before.
But what I bought these for - to use while I'm working at home. All of the extra white noise from my fans gets cut out, though I still hear a faint sound at times (it's basically so loud it's unavoidable). Overall, I would say (since I read it somewhere else) that these are better at noise "reducing" than nose canceling. Either way, they work great for me.
My one and only gripe about these headphones... The cord is just too short - but it's the same issue I had with my other Sony's and perhaps more of the "standard" for these types of headphones. I assume these are meant more phone that who are on-the-go and maybe on their iPod and laptops, more than people like me who uses them exclusively for home computer usage. Since my computer tower is my only plug-in for the headphones/speakers (and my speakers don't have an on-speaker headphone jack - I wish it did), I have to use an optical extension cord, which works very well for me, as it did with my last set.
I really like these headphones for what I do and I've been pleased with all of the Sony brand 'phones I've used over the years. They certainly work just perfectly for my work at home and exactly what I needed and wanted when I went out to purchase a new set.

Noise Canceling Technology

Listen With or Without Noise Reduction

On-Ear Design
Many of the noise canceling headphones out there are earbuds; these are ideal for someone who prefers an external phone. The phones rest gently on your ear, with an adjustable headband to get a good fit. And good sound--a neodymium magnet provides excellent power-handling, and 30-millimeter drivers deliver quality sound with a frequency response of 20 Hz - 30 kHz.
