Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony MDR-E10Lp/BLK Headphones - Fashion Earbuds (Black)

Customer Review: Don't Buy This Pair of "Fashion Earbuds" It's Called "Fashion" for a reason.
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this pair of headphones from a local electronics store, not Amazon but they are the same headphones with the same model number listed.

My advice is that if you like to hear the bass sounds of the music that you listen to, DO NOT buy this pair of headphones. Buy the Sony MDR-818/828LP model earbuds for a buck more than what's listed here at Amazon. Both models are the same thing. The difference? The latter model has a case and soft foamy cushion to wrap your earbuds around in order to block out sound from around you and if you have big ears like me, it helps keep the earbuds from falling out of my ear when jogging or running.

First thing I don't like about these earbuds is that they are too loose. I have big ears and these keep falling out when jogging. How do you determine if you have big ears you might ask? Well, I find that height is a good indicator of how big your head, and therefore, your ears will be. If you're 5'11" or taller (I'm 6'4"), you have big ears. These will not fit you. Anything under, 5'10" or below, these earbuds should fit you just fine. Exceptions do apply. If you're a short person born with a big head, bigger than the average short person, adjust accordingly. How do you know? Look around you and compare your head size with other people of your height and their head sizes.

Second thing I don't like is the crappy bass sounds. It's almost non-existent and is instead replaced with this digitize bass sound. It's crap. If I wanted digitized bass, I'd go to my laptop with crappy speakers.

Third thing is that I don't like the color of the cord. It's white. It gets dirty easily. Plus, I'm not a fan of Apple's signature 'white' colored headphones either and I don't want people thinking I own an Apple product (I hate Apple products with a passion). It has nothing to do with its product quality, which I've heard is fantastic. I just don't like Apple. Simple as that.

Despite all the negative, there are a couple of things that I do like about it.

1. The length of the cord. It's much longer than the Sony MDR-818/828LP models.

2. It was cheap at a retail store. Usually retail stores charge you a premium because there's a physical location you can go to in order to check out what they have and if problems occur, you can bring it back to them. That's why it's so much more expensive than online merchant stores since these guys don't have a physical location to display their products to consumers and for consumers to go back to if problems occur. But, I found that the prices more or less match the online prices, albeit it was about $1 more expensive than Amazon.

3. The overall sound is actually quite clear. Plays clear treble sounds and you could make out most of the instruments except the highest and lowest pitch ones.

I listen to mostly New Age instrumentals, Electronica, Ambient, Trance, House, and Drum n' Bass. So...for some of these songs where there is a heavy bass presence, like Electronica, Trance, and Drum n' Bass, the bass sounds don't go along with everything else being played. In short, it's crap. If you intend to use these headphones for rock and pop music or really, any music with vocals (singing), it should suit your needs just fine.

All in all, if you're looking for a cheap, under $10, pair of earbud headphones with a decent bass sound in that same price bracket, this pair is not the one you want to buy. Go buy the Sony MDR-818/828LP model. If you can afford it, go buy the same model 818/828 with the inline volume adjuster. It is a boon to have two volume adjusters, I swear! It's handy. You won't need to fiddle with your player, just scroll up or down the volume knob for high or low so you can talk to someone without having to look at your player.
