I think this player does a great job for the price point. The picture is as close to HD as I have seen and the sounds really is great. I would recommend this player to anyone who is looking for a decent dvd experience but doesn't want to shell out over $150 for a Bluray player. This DVD player looks great and works well. Very easy setup (took me less than 2 mins). The buttons on the DVD player are a bit slim, which looks nice, but they can be hard to press. Ships with a remote & batteries. Remote feels a bit cheap, but works well so far. There is no eject button on the remote. Normally this isn't a problem, but since the buttons on the DVD player itself can be hard to press, it is a bit annoying.
Menu features allow you to change aspect ratio & other features. Love that it saves your place in up to six movies at a time!
Overall this was a good buy and I would recommend it to other buyers.

I had to do a lot of detailed research to find an updscaling DVD player that will play DVD+ and DVD- R/RW and Dual Layer DVD + and - formats at this reasonable price. Many cheaper models will only play one format (only + discs) and most do not play DVD DL discs. In my work as an A/V specialist I am using all types of DVD media so a player that can read them all was a must!
The picture quality is great with the HDMI output, and it reads scratched discs pretty well too.

I am an amateur when it comes to technical features in a dvd player. I just need a decent picture and a simple remote.
The dvd player worked really well, but I was disappointed by the remote control. The worst was that this and all the new SONY dvd player models I subsequently looked at does not allow you use the remote to open and close the dvd holder. The model which my daughter bought a year ago had this feature. For some reason, this is a feature my husband and I use a lot.
Also, I use the display feature on the remote to figure out how many minutes each episode or feature lasts. I could not figure out the data on that button. The product itself was fine, but the remote control no longer has the features I use.
These features may not be important to other buyers, but they are to me.
Customer Review: Lacks Audio Outputs

This DVD player has a lot going for it. It is reasonably priced, compact, attractive, easy to use, produces a great picture, etc. It's a shame Sony decided not to provide 5.1 audio output either digitally by optical output or via the analog output. There is no optical output from this player and the analog output is stereo only. It is normal to include at least one of these 5.1 outputs on any modern player and it is not at all clear on the web page description that they are not included. If you have pre-HDMI receiver (as I do), there is no way to connect this DVD player to your (or to my very excellent) theater system for 5.1 sound reproduction.
As a result I had to return this DVD player to Amazon.
