Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony Cybershot DSCW80 7.2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and Super Steady Shot (Silver)

Customer Review: what a let down!
Summary: 1 Stars

I am very upset over my purchase of this camera.
After my second day using it, I got an error message. I had taken about 5 photos and had not done anything that may have harmed the camera. On the web page I found what to do for the error message, but it did not work. I sent the camera to Sony, thinking that maybe because my new perfectly treated camera had mysteriously broken they might actually honor my waranty and fix it or at least agree to refund me. No such luck. They claimed it was an impact injury. There is no way this is possible...even if it was, a camera at this price should not sustain such injuries so soon after such light use. I am currently appealing this with the company and have spent hours on the phone. I will never buy another sony product.
My advice---Don't get this camera! There are many others out there that I think would be a better choice.

Customer Review: Great camera for the price!
Summary: 5 Stars

I researched this and other cameras for about 7 months before finally deciding on the DSC-W80. I was sort of torn between the DSC-W55 and the DSC-T70. For $20 or $30 more, I thought the features that came on the DSC-W80 were better than the W55 (face recognition, etc). As far as the T70 I LOVED how compact it was, but it didn't have the zoom lens, so any zoom you got was going to be the digital zoom, which I wasn't very keen about.

My stepmom has this exact camera and some of her pictures kept coming out grainy. When I got mine, I tweeked some of the settings (which she hadn't done) and my pictures came out great. I had to go in and turn on the image stabilization, change the resolution size of the picture, and also turn on the face recognition, and when I changed the same settings on her camera, the pictures have been great ever since.

The shutter lag time on this camera is amazing...compared to every other camera brands I've dealt with (Nikon, Canon, etc) this is by FAR the shortest lag time.

I love how small the camera is. It can easily be in a purse or even a pocket and you hardly even know it's there. The ONLY drawback is that the battery tends to not hold as long of a charge as I think it should.

Overall, I love the camera, and Sony has me sold on their CyberShot cameras for sure.

Customer Review: Amazing Capabilities in a Tiny Package!
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't say enough good things about the Sony DSCW80, but I'll mention 10 features that I've been particularly pleased with:
1. In "fine" mode you can snap images that will print with great detail up to 13" x 19".
2. With a 4GB ProDuo card you can shoot almost an hour of very decent video, with sound.
3. The image stabilizer works great.
4. Shutter response is very fast and works particularly well in continuous shooting mode.
5. Auto Exposure Bracketing (which allows you to shoot the same images at three different exposure settings) is a wonderful feature that is usually available only in much more expensive cameras.
6. Battery life is excellent and charging time is reasonable.
7. The mode selector provides brief on-screen explanations as each mode is selected.
8. The camera has a view finder (which is invaluable when the sun is shining on the LCD screen).
9. The camera includes shutter-click and other useful sound effects.
10. The flash is well-synchronized and it can be manually calibrated to provide higher or lower flash intensity - a great feature!
I could be describing a camera that costs $1,000 and weighs 2 pounds, but the DSCW80 offers so much in such a tiny, low-cost package - it's just amazing!

Customer Review: An overall AWESOME camera
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok....so, I started with a Canon Powershot. I love the camera, but it is too big to take with me in my purse or pocket. So, I did some research and decided to buy the Sony Cybershot. I have been a very happy photo taker since then. Anytime I want to take a picture...it is convienently there in my purse. It takes amazing photos. Very crisp and clear.

So, we went to the snow over the weekend...and, YES...the camera fit perfectly in my ski jacket pocket. I was able to take amazing photo's at the top of Heavenly....with Lake Tahoe in the back ground. I used the snow setting...and I took some pretty pictures. No action shot was left out.

I am thoroughly happy with my purchase...and look forward to taking a lot more photo's on my upcoming vacation to Mexico.

Customer Review: Good camera, but mine was faulty
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this for my father-in-law. He loved it, but the camera froze up after about 5 months.
It had to be returned. It was still under the one year warranty. The replacement works fine.

If you like a larger display screen, this is not it. Check out the T-100 or newer T-200.
