Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony 8 GB Walkman Video MP3 Player (Black)Customer Review: Had high hopes but got headaches instead Summary: 1 StarsI decided to buy this unit for my 10-year-old son as his first MP3 player because I didn't want to dish out the big bucks for the IPOD not knowing how careful he would be with it. I love my IPOD Classic but they are pricey. Additionally, I've always been a fan of Sony electronics. No more...at least not with their Walkmans. Loading music was easy - drop and drag to the folder using my PC, which recognized the Walkman as soon as it was plugged in. That's where the ease of use ended. One of the selling points of these units is the ability to upload and watch videos. I'm an experienced computer user but I spent half a day trying to get videos downloaded from YouTube to this Walkman device without success. I used the Sony Walkman Media Manager (program that comes on the CD that comes packaged with the unit) and that didn't work. It wouldn't upload any MP4 or AVC format videos despite these being the only formats Sony says it will accept for videos. I downloaded the content transfer program from Sony's Web site and that program immediately stopped working on my computer (On screen message: "This program has stopped working and needs to shut down"). Several reinstalls of the program and same thing result. Ugh. I finally just dropped and dragged the videos from my PC desktop directly into the Walkman video folder and they copied over fine. However, when I tried to play them on the Walkman I got the "incompatible format" error message on every video. To boot, Sony's Web site provides no troubleshooting assistance for the issue. I found many others online with the same issue I was experiencing. Lesson learned - spend a few extra bucks and buy the IPOD for trouble free operation. Good luck!
Customer Review: Video transfer is horrible Summary: 2 StarsThe information for this walkman says that it plays video, and also that you can use ITunes. Neither is really true without a lot of effort. It does not include the a way to easily transfer video and is not compatible with the ITunes video types. This means that you have to find conversion software, download it and then figure out how to get the types and sizes right. If you are not that technical you will find this nearly impossible. I am technical enough, but did not want to spend hours converting files.
Bad Job Sony! I wont buy a sony product again because I will not trust anything they say their product does.
Customer Review: Sony nailed it. Summary: 5 StarsI have to say, Sony nailed it with their Walkman! This is the 4th one I have bought. I bought the first three last year for Christmas for our three older children. I didn't want to spend that much on our youngest's music player, so I got her a cheaper on and it lasted about a week. One year later, we have had NO problems with ANY of our walkmans and they get used all the time. So, this year I bought our youngest a Walkman. She loves it, I love knowing it will last and it sounds GREAT. I would choose a Walkman over an Ipod EVERY time. I just wish there were more accessories that were compatible with the Walkman.
Customer Review: I can finally put my Ipod down!! Summary: 5 StarsI am so happy I purchased this. I am so happy to say I have put my Apple Ipod touch in my dresser. The number one reason for getting another mp3 player because I am so tired of ITUNES...I love how you can sync your music with windows media player. I really hate I tunes and it uses so much memory on my computer. I purchased external hard drive and just got tired of itunes. I now can sync music with windows media and delete it off my computer. SWEET!!!
I love the sound of this mp3 player and once again you can never go wrong with SONY!!
Customer Review: Item has not yet been received... Summary: 1 Stars...and neither has a refund. This was my second try in ordering a Walkman (for my fiance 1500 miles away) from TigerDirect. The first attempt returned to their factory. I was forced to cancel my order, get a refund, and reorder the item. TigerDirect attempted to charge me $15 more than the price I originally paid. I waited on the phone for 20 minutes before they agreed to let me reorder the product for its original price.
The second item was delivered to an incorrect address and I have yet to receive the Walkman. The fact that UPS can't find the shipping address isn't TigerDirect's fault, but their customer service representatives were less than helpful. TigerDirect finally (grudgingly) initiated a search for my package, but I have heard nothing since then and have not gotten a refund. I finally bought a Walkman at Walmart and sent it via USPS to my fiance. It arrived before noon the next day.
I won't be dealing with TigerDirect again.
