Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of 2-DEVICE Universal Remote with Big ButtonsCustomer Review: Great for fogies Summary: 3 Stars
I can't help but feel this remote control was specifically designed for easily confused old people.
First, the good news. The important buttons are super huge and impossible to miss, so pressing any of the numbers or flipping through the channels and volume control will be a breeze. There aren't a lot of other pointless buttons to mix things up either (I don't need satellite dish controls, I don't own one!) so you won't have to worry about accidentally pressing something you didn't want to.
On the other hand, that leads us to some of the bad news. While there aren't a lot of buttons to clutter things up, there aren't really ENOUGH buttons for my tastes. Specifically, there's no Menu button. Nowadays, most TVs don't have set-top dials and switches to control color or tint; that stuff is left for the onscreen menus. Can't access `em with this control, so you're out of luck if you need to change the TV's date or time or brightness or contrast.
And even when you are just flipping through channels, you have to aim the control DIRECTLY at the front of the TV or it won't work. I added new batteries, old batteries, tried standing at different angles, but this remote control will only work if you're pointing it almost perpendicular to the TV set you're watching. Not a lot of fun if you're like me and you stretch out on the sofa while enjoying reruns of Sanford & Son. It's not like I'm gonna be sitting upright in rapt attention straight up in front of the TV while waiting to see if Fred Sanford's heart attack is for real this time.
In the end, it's a great choice as a starter remote for an old television, or a great choice for an old... person. Other than that, I'd spend a couple bucks extra and spring for something higher end. You'll be better off if you enjoy TV for more than a few minutes a day.
